Mr Surin, convenor of our Digitalisation and BIM Task Group has joined the British Standards Institute (BSI) committee in charge of drafting PAS 1192-7. This document provide manufacturers and others with a plain language approach to providing and asking for information on products. It will also enable stakeholders to link information between different systems (e.g. between Smart CE Marking and BIM, between architects and quantity surveyors, between energy performance assessments and security specialists). It is all about a neutral way of linking data through the lifecycle of a product and an asset; it enables mapping between any international variations and will be fully aligned to Smart CE Marking and CEN/TC 442 WG4 on Data Dictionaries.

The current programme is to publish the full PAS during the second quarter of 2018, but two drafts will be released prior to the final version.

The Lead Author is Steve Thompson from BIM4M2 and PCSG, who is the UK Nominated Expert on the CEN/TC 442 WG4 group, and wrote the recent Future for Construction Product Manufacturing, and worked for Tata Steel for 10 years. Other representatives on the Steering Group include Espen Schultz from CoBuilder and the CEN WG.
