On 20-21 September, in the framework of the BUILD UPON project 170 experts met in Madrid. The goals of the initiative are to:

1. Build a community of public, private and non-profit stakeholders across Europe who can take on the long-term challenge of designing and implementing national renovation strategies;
2. Build a common vision of what we want to achieve by 2050 in terms of renovation;
3. Build the foundations of a strategy for coordinated action, to achieve this vision and define indicators to track the progress made.

Construction Products Europe was pleased to be one of the event partners and as such we were invited to introduce and lead one of the roundtable discussions dedicated to EU policy.

The results of the Madrid Leaders’ Summit will feed into the Global Alliance for Buildings and Construction (Global ABC) and the COP22 summit, which will take place from 7-18 November 2016 in Marrakech. The Leaders’ Summit conclusions will also be presented to EU Member States, which are currently preparing revised versions of their national renovation strategies.  A second BUILD UPON summit will held in Brussels in February 2017 and we will keep you informed of our progress in this field.
