In October 2018, the Joint Initiative on Standardization (JIS) will complete its second year of life. The action leaders along with the sponsors are still at work to implement the 15 concrete Actions aiming to modernize the European standardization system. Some of these Actions have well progressed and their impact will have effects even before the end of 2019, expected closing date of the JIS.

Growing expectations rely on JIS: it was at the core of the recommendations from the European Parliament in its Resolution of 4 July 2017 on ‘European standards for the 21st century’ and will be one of the reference documents in the inter-institutional dialogue among the European Commission, the European Parliament, the Council, the Committee of the Regions and the European Economic and Social Council. This dialogue will shape the EU strategic priorities for European standardization to be included in the Annual Union Work programme for 2019.
