This topic will be covered in the frame of the conference session on Wednesday 14th of June, through two different presentations.

The first one, under the title "Future and Current Potential of Construction Product Manufacturing” will be made by Paul Surin, Head of Built Environment at Wienerberger.

Paul understands that the industry 4.0, circular economy and smart assets, data standardisation, potential growth of the sector, changing points of interaction and manufacture lead approach to construction projects, is what BIM means for manufacturers.

Claude Dumoulin will be in charge of the second presentation, called "FIEC’s approach to relevant policy on digitalisation”.

Claude Dumoulin is FNTP participant at AFNOR, participating in CEN/TC 442 BIM and ISO CEN TC 59 SC 13, as representative of the European Construction Industry Federation, FIEC.

For him, the digitalisation in construction is not new, but emerging policy related to digital construction is – and policy makers are catching up with the rapidly evolving situation in the European construction industry with measures and related initiatives such as the use of public procurement as a way of stimulating the uptake of BIM.

Claude Dumoulin thinks BIM can help achieve the objectives of relevant EU policy. Although digitalisation is about much more than just BIM, from his point of view, it is necessary to identify what needs to be done, by the industry as one key half of an important partnership and by policy makers as the other, in order to improve the implementation and accelerated uptake of BIM across Europe.

Finally, this session will be moderated by Christophe Sykes, General Director of Construction Products Europe.
